The Health, Hygiene, and Nutrition Program by WCSF CharitySpirit Foundation is a dedicated initiative aimed at improving the well-being of women and children from rural, tribal, and underserved communities. In many backward and remote areas, access to quality health services, awareness about menstrual hygiene, and knowledge of proper nutrition remains alarmingly low. Deep-rooted myths, social taboos, poverty, and lack of awareness further intensify the health crisis, especially among adolescent girls and mothers.

To tackle these challenges, WCSF has launched this program with a multi-pronged approach to spread awareness, promote healthy practices, and deliver essential support. The program educates adolescent girls and women on menstrual hygiene through workshops that include the distribution of sanitary pads, reusable cloth pads, and hygiene kits. It also encourages open conversations to break taboos and eliminate shame associated with menstruation. In some locations, sanitary napkin vending machines are installed in schools and community centers to increase accessibility.

In the area of nutrition, the program conducts sessions for children, pregnant women, and mothers on balanced diets, using locally available and affordable ingredients. It promotes practical knowledge through cooking demonstrations and community events like Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month). Children’s height, weight, and BMI are regularly monitored to identify malnutrition and take timely intervention.

The initiative also organizes free health and wellness camps to provide basic medical check-ups including blood pressure, hemoglobin, and sugar testing. Pregnant women receive antenatal care, iron and folic acid supplements, and personalized consultations by trained doctors and health workers. Health cards are issued to ensure follow-up and consistent monitoring.

Personal hygiene and cleanliness are emphasized through practical training on handwashing, clean toilet usage, safe drinking water, and sanitation. School and village-level events like handwashing demonstrations, street plays, and slogan competitions help promote behavior change. Tailored hygiene and self-care sessions for girls and women further help instill a sense of dignity, confidence, and personal safety.

Community engagement plays a key role in the program’s sustainability. WCSF works in partnership with Anganwadi centers, ASHA workers, and local health departments to connect beneficiaries with key government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Poshan Abhiyan, and Swachh Bharat Mission. Women’s groups are empowered to take ownership of these initiatives, fostering local leadership and collective action.

This program is currently active in the states of Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh — areas where health indicators are critically low and the need for awareness and services is urgent. Through this initiative, WCSF is building healthier, more informed communities equipped to make better life choices.

We invite individuals, corporate partners, donors, and volunteers to support this impactful mission. You can sponsor menstrual hygiene kits, contribute monthly nutrition packs, support through CSR collaborations for setting up health camps, or volunteer as a trainer, nutritionist, or health educator.
