Under its commitment to promoting women’s health and dignity, WCSF CharitySpirit Foundation successfully organized a comprehensive Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign across the districts of Gumla, Simdega, Khunti, and Chatra in Jharkhand. The campaign was designed to educate women and adolescent girls about menstrual hygiene management, challenge long-standing myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation, and encourage healthy, safe, and dignified practices.
The primary objective of the initiative was to create an informed and supportive environment where menstruation is recognized as a natural biological process rather than a subject of fear, shame, or discrimination. Through awareness sessions and community engagement activities, the Foundation emphasized the importance of breaking social taboos and ensuring that every woman and girl has access to accurate health information and safe menstrual hygiene practices.
The successful implementation of the campaign was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Foundation’s District Coordinators, Block Coordinators, Panchayat Mahila Mitras, and Gram Sakhis, who reached villages and communities to interact directly with women and adolescent girls. They conducted educational sessions on personal hygiene during menstruation, prevention of infections, balanced and nutritious diets, and the proper use of safe menstrual hygiene products.
The campaign leadership included District Coordinators Pinky, Jasinta, Geeta, and Pushpa, who played a vital role in coordinating activities across different districts. They were supported by Holika Devi, Rashmi, Meera Devi, Rekha Devi, along with several Panchayat Mahila Mitras and Gram Sakhis, who organized group meetings, community discussions, and participatory awareness sessions to disseminate scientifically accurate information on menstrual health.
During the program, participants were educated on essential menstrual hygiene practices, including the regular use and timely replacement of sanitary products, proper hand hygiene before and after changing menstrual materials, and the safe disposal of used hygiene products. Special emphasis was also placed on preventing anemia among adolescent girls, maintaining a nutritious diet, adopting healthy lifestyle practices, and understanding the importance of overall reproductive and personal health.
Women and adolescent girls who participated in the campaign appreciated the initiative, stating that such awareness programs provide them with reliable information and help eliminate social stigma, hesitation, and misconceptions associated with menstruation. They also expressed the need for these educational programs to be conducted regularly so that more communities can benefit from scientific knowledge and open discussions on menstrual health.
WCSF CharitySpirit Foundation is committed to ensuring that accurate information on menstrual hygiene and women’s health reaches every village and every Panchayat in Jharkhand. The Foundation believes that empowering women and girls with knowledge and access to safe menstrual hygiene practices is essential for improving health outcomes, enhancing confidence, promoting gender equality, and enabling them to live healthy, dignified, and empowered lives.
The Foundation will continue to organize similar community-based initiatives focused on women’s health, education, self-reliance, and empowerment, contributing to a healthier and more inclusive society.
